My immediate reaction to reading this poem was something along the lines of:

Nayyirah Waheed is an amazing writer. She captures giant ideas in few words. I love simple writing. Maybe because I've always thought that I could never reach the point of enlightenment, of self actualization that writers like her seem to already be in possession of. I've been struggling to find sources of passion and inspiration. There's an ultimatum that repeats itself in my head: do I want a job that allows and requires me to be creative or do I want to be creative on my own time? First I need to find what I'm actually hearing and seeing the difference between that and what I'm trying to create now.
