I Think I Want a Duster Coat

I'm going to guess that the duster coat's namesake comes from the fact that it's almost-just-about to-sort of dust the ground? But that implies that the person wearing said coat is juuuuust the right height. My lack of optimism towards long coats probably stems from the fact that I'm 5 foot 3 (if we're being generous) and don't want my outerwear to serve the dual purpose of keeping me warm while mopping the ground beneath it. Thinking about all of the mysterious liquids that flow through the sidewalk cracks of New York City streets being absorbed by my long coat makes me feel some type of way. Gagging, I'm gagging. So objectively, the idea of a duster coat doesn't sound practical or sanitary. I'm also realizing that I'm not doing a very good job of selling my point here. Like all fashion related dilemmas, this too can be resolved (!!).
There are lots of duster coat options out there of varying lengths and styles. If you tend to dress on the simpler, minimalistic side, you can opt for a long statement coat to bring some life into the cold months. This one from Mango is great and affordable:

As is this one from Monki/ASOS:

Reformation makes beautiful, flowy coats that go really well with their aesthetic (vintage Levi style denim, ankle boots, just everything 70s inspired):

But TGFZ (thank god for Zara), because they have a similar and more affordable style:

And there you have it, I hope this crash course to duster coats is everything and more than you imagined. Given that you have low standards for crash course guides to duster coats. I'm v excited for the sophistication that will exude from my outerwear choices this season.
